In earlier versions of the game, an error made Gorochu's base Special Attack stat 900 instead of 132.
Design + Name Origin[]
Based upon a very early version of the first Pokemon game, where a Raichu was said to have evolved when traded to an NPC, but this was only due to a error in the translation of the text. Although, according to the Pokemon Designer Atsuko Nishida, there was a design for a Raichu evolution, in which he stated, "I was told to make its final form look strong. That's right, there was a evolved form after Raichu at the time. It's name was Gorochu."
Design was based from an early version of the Raichu line which had Gorochu as a part of it, in the same art style. Was meant to represent some kind of 'God of Thunder'.
Gorochu was scrapped before the full release of "Pokemon Red and Blue", but is still one of the earliest 'beta' designs of a Pokemon, besides all the designs in the orginal "Pokemon Red and Green", which was a beta to the "Red and Blue" series with different designs to all the original 151 Pokemon.
