During the game story, the player receives memorial scans from Professor Thorn. The first scan is done after they resolve a solar panel interruption and the second scan is done after they deliver a letter to the Safari Zone's warden. While being scanned, the player's brain reacts to it as well. As a result, the player experiences a different kind of a rather dark, depressing, and mysterious reality that is somewhat based on the player's damaged memory.
In both scans, the player wakes up in the hospital bed. Nurse Joy can be found beside the bed, but she appears helpless toward the player. Darkrai can also be found. Minions of Ghost-type Pokémon specifically appear in the second scan every time the player answers the phone.
The player can only go back to the real world if they decide to lie down on the bed.
